For Chinese in Primary 1, Lionel has been doing Han Yu Pin Yin for the 1st term so far... chapter 1 ~ 5 ( pg 1 - 27 of his Chinese textbook)

Lionel will be having his 1st Chinese HYPY test this coming Wed, 29 Feb 2012. He will be tested on what he had learned so far. His Chinese teacher gave only a week's notice. We have been doing daily revision, online exercises & assessment books. Here's hoping we have covered all neccessary. Only 1 more day to go.

Bukit Chandu

26 Feb 2012 (Sun):

Daddy had a day off & we went over to Bukit Chandu. This was known as point 226 during WW2. It was the last fort our British army hold on to & the fight against our enemy lasted 4 days & 4 nights.

We visited the museum & learned how the Japanese invaded Singapore in 1942.

Then it was off to West Coast Park for more play. That will be the next post.

English & Chinese Spelling

25 Feb 2012 (Sat):

Rachel has been given a list of both English & Chinese spelling words. Till date, she has been tested on 5 different group of words ( one group of words for each week). For Chinese, she has done well so far, getting all words spelled correctly & the strokes of the Chinese characters properly shown.

For English, i was a little disappointed she got a ZERO for her spelling during the 3rd week. I do not know what had happened. We have sat down together & revised thru the words, not 1 day before but at least 3 days in advance & everytime, she was able to spell out the words correctly be it written or verbal.

However on the day itself, her mind went blank & she could not spell out a single word correctly, even if they are only 3 lettered words. She got back her book & showed it to me, in tears. I told her gently but firmly that she has to do better the next round. And she did, for the subsequent 2 sets, she got full marks. I am delighted.

End of " Read In A Week " lessons

19 Feb 2012 (Sun):

Lionel has officially finished his " Read In A Week " phonics lessons which begun last March. Teacher Yvonne gave a consent form to all parents some time back regarding a continuation with higher phonics which was scheduled to begin next week but the timing was not suitable so i did not follow through.

Sad to say, no certificate was given. I asked Lionel if he would like to enrol with CMA ( mental abacus) or drawing lessons. He did not answer me but looking at his expression, i think he would prefer art. So for now, i am looking around for suitable art classes. Any one has any suggestions?

Marshall Cavendish Online

16 Feb 2012 (Thurs):

Last Friday, i saw this little card given to Lionel with his ID, user name & password. Its Marshall Cavendish Online

I sat down with Lionel, logged in & navigated around the website. There are many different tutorials & activities covered in English, Mother Tongue & Maths. Lionel settled down to do his given assignments. All in all, he has a total of 9 assigments & 1 quiz to complete by end of Mar 2012 at this moment.

Lionel enjoyed what he was doing & we agreed on doing 2 assignments on alternate evenings. We have completed 2 & will attempt another 2 this evening.
